Staff

Meet our staff family!

In hiring, we’ve built a team of like-minded professionals who share the Darlington vision of providing therapeutic care in a loving environment. We’re a close-knit group of experienced professionals – some of us really are family, the rest just feel like it! We have the lowest patient to staff ratio – 7:1 – in the industry, and an extremely low turnover so a friendly face is always nearby.  All staff, not just the activities director, are trained to engage residents in activity both formally and informally. And our open communication policy ensures all staff know what’s going on with residents at any given moment.

From CNAs to kitchen workers, we bring a focused, tailored approach where we all advocate for each resident to ensure their needs are taken care of in the best possible way. All our staff has special TEAM training and certification through the Alzheimer’s Association, and the company emphasizes and supports continuing education for everyone.

Our care staff includes:

John A. Stoukides, M.D. – our attending physician who is a board certified, well-known geriatric specialist. He is associated with Roger Williams Hospital, where he is a top researcher and also runs a memory clinic. Patients and families alike appreciate his gentle approach.

Nurse Practitioner and Psychiatric Clinical Nurse Specialist – who has worked with Dr. Stoukides over 20 years and knows our residents well.  With a multifunctional role, she is part nurse practitioner, registered nurse (RN), care manager, and primary care provider. She improves access to medical services and augments the care Dr. Stoukides provides.

Director of Wellness – a registered nurse and a big resident advocate. She oversees resident healthcare on a day to day basis, and works to get to the bottom of an issue that may be agitating a resident and resolve it, not just medicate them, working closely with our medical staff.

Director of Therapeutic Programming – engages residents in activities that promote physical, cognitive, social, and spiritual wellbeing, maximizing functional independence and reducing behavioral problems. She oversees the Activity Director and several Activity Assistants to ensure that appropriate therapy, communication techniques and activities are used.

Activity Director – works as a team leader with other staff to keep everyone engaged with a continually updated menu of creative activities, trips, entertainment. She promotes a supportive environment that incorporates residents’ assessed abilities, limitations and preferences and documents progress.

CNAs and Medication Administrators – provide direct care and assistance to our Residents, working as a team to execute daily scheduled activities plus assistance with grooming, environment, transportation, meal prep/serving and much more. They encourage residents and study their preferences to ensure the best possible care by knowing their history, likes and habits.
